Pete Sutherland and Friends

Friday, February 11 | 8 – 10pm

MAHANEY CENTER FOR THE ARTS CONCERT HALL,

MIDDLEBURY COLLEGE

FREE!

Multi-instrumentalist and songsmith Pete Sutherland brings a stage-full of local talent to propel a three-dimensional reading of songs and tunes from various folk sources, as well as his own compositions deeply rooted in tradition. Known for his potent originals and his intense recreations of age-old ballads, and fiddle tunes, Sutherland’s performances “shine with a pure spirit, which infuses every bit of his music and cannot fail to move all who hear him” – the American Festival of Fiddle Tunes.

Featuring Colin McCaffrey, Tim Cummings, Jeremiah McLane, Will Patton, Ken Perlman, Karen Sutherland, and more than two dozen stellar singers and fiddlers.

This concert is also the kick-off event for the Northeast Heritage Music Camp* Scholarship Fund.

Chaos & Creativity: Performance and CD Release Celebration

Inspiration, creativity, music, theatre and dance will fill the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Lake Placid, NY on Fri., Jan. 21.  Singer, harper, and songwriter Martha Gallagher returns to the LPCA stage to present her annual Jan.concert extravaganza, this year entitled Chaos & Creativity.

A performance that goes “beyond concert”, this show weaves together live music, theatre, dance, mime, poetry, improv and more!  Joining Martha (voice, acoustic lever harp, electric harp, MIDI harp) in this fifth annual-but always-different performance will be percussionist Brian Melick (uduboy.com) and mimedance artist, Karen Montanaro (mimetheatre.com).   The evening debuts several collaborative inspirations as well as celebrating the release of Martha’s new CD, Ebb & Flow.  Her original music will be featured as the core of the performance.

Martha’s versatile voice, penchant for defying the stereotypical confines of what “harp music” is  and her songwriting that spans genres from Latin grooves to Classical inspirations, from wailing Blues to swinging Jazz to tender contemporary Folk, make her an enigma that resists musical pigeon-holes.  Gallagher’s 30+ year music career includes solo national tours, performing with six-time Grammy winners The Chieftains, being a featured visiting artist at Berklee College of Music, researching and publishing articles on the cutting edge MIDI harp, and releasing five CDs on her independent label, Singing Strings. (adkharper.com)

Show begins at 7:30 PM.  Tickets are $12/10; call LPCA at 518.523-2512 or email info@lakeplacidarts.org.  Reservations are highly recommended for this concert.  North Country Public Radio is proud to be media sponsor for this event (ncpr.org).  A reception will follow the concert, hosted by Adirondack Wild; Friends of the Forest Preserve and feature regionally grown, prepared and procured fare.  For more info on the performance and artists, please visit www.adkharper.com.
