Thomas William Sustic

5/18/1985 – 7/4/2001

Thomas was a very caring and generous spirit who gave more than he ever received. He was always available for his friends to talk to, and most often took care of others before himself. His Make-A-Wish request was to have a party at BFA-Fairfax (his high school) for his friends and classmates in the fall of 1999. His professional goal was to be a teacher, and he was well known for his exceptional rapport and kindness with younger children. He handled his disease and treatment with tremendous courage, determination and grace. He wanted to be seen for himself, not defined by his illness, and lived the precious few years he had on his own terms with a strong will and a true heart.

Events for Tom
the concerts and other events

Several musicians offered to do a performance as part of a series of concerts in Burlington, designed both to strengthen and sustain a fund established in Tom Sustic’s memory (he died on July 4th, 2001 after a 2-year battle with leukemia) to support families with children with cancer, and to ensure a series of high quality concerts featuring the best performers we can come up with. The events are used to raise awareness about children with leukemia and their families. All profits go into the Tom Sustic Fund. Doing these types of events coincide with a connection Thomas and his mom and dad had for many years with a wide variety of performers, many of whom are featured at these the events. The events help create an environment that was familiar to Tom, and gathers a group of people who knew him in these settings.
