Trad Camp
Trad Camp 2012
Trad Camp is a week long day camp at Memorial Auditorium in Burlington, Vermont from July 20th through August 3rd, presented by Burlington Parks and Recreation and Young Tradition Vermont with 242 Main Academy and others, where children and youth aged 7 to 18 can learn about playing, singing and dancing in a variety styles.
Most campers participate in 5 ’sessions’ each day, for about an hour each, with a different instructor for each. Session choices include beginner, intermediate and advanced levels for playing tunes, in addition sessions for singing and dancing. The camp meets from 9am and 3pm each day.
Bring-your-own bag lunch hours feature concerts and presentations by visiting artists. Some sessions are taught by master instructors with apprentices in the same age range as camp participants.
Instructors include some of the best and most respected musicians and teachers in the region. The week includes optional evening concert and showcase events and concludes on Friday with a potluck and showcase at City Hall with instructors, students and guests from about 3pm to 5pm, something that friends, family and others are invited to attend.
Cost for the entire week for Burlington residents is approximately $175, approximately $200 if you’re not a Burlington resident. Registration is handled by Burlington Parks and Recreation and is limited. Register early…… we are usually full by the time camp starts. Watch the Burlington Parks and Recreation Website for the Summer Brochure, which will list Trad Camp as one of their programs. It is posted in late winter/early spring. Once this brochure is out you may register my mail, fax or online.

An endorsement from Ceile (age 11):
‘Hi I am Ceile and I went to the Trad Camp last year. It was very interesting and exciting because you get to play fiddle from all over the world. This camp is not only for violin though. Many different folk instruments can play there. What you do is you learn fiddle tunes from different visitors who come there for a couple days to teach. They have many, many different songs to teach. The camp is great for beginners through advanced fiddlers.
Personally I had a BLAST.’
